Brand Voice Examples: One Post Written Five Ways
By Fox, founder of BrandGoblin AI · Updated October 1, 2026 · 6 min read
Two businesses can sell the same thing at the same price and still feel completely different. Most of that difference is voice. The fastest way to understand it is to watch one message change shape.
The same announcement, five voices
The news: "We're open late on Fridays now."
| Voice | The post |
|---|---|
| Bold and primal (a dark-roast coffee brand like Fossil Fuel) | "Fridays just got longer. Doors open till midnight. Sleep is for herbivores. 🦖" |
| Cosmic and darkly funny (a taco truck like Dead Orbit Tacos) | "New orbit unlocked: Friday nights till 2 AM. The undead get hungry late." |
| Laid back and golden (surf apparel like Juicy Hazy) | "Fridays run on sundown time now. Come by after the last set, we're open late." |
| Warm and neighborly (a family bakery) | "Good news for night owls: we're staying open late on Fridays. Come say hi, the coffee's on." |
| Clean and professional (an accounting firm) | "Starting this week, our office hours extend to 8 PM on Fridays for client appointments." |
Nothing about the information changed. Everything about the brand did.
Voice vs. tone
Voice is who you are, and it stays constant. Tone is how that voice adjusts to the moment. A playful brand still sounds like itself when apologizing for a late order, just calmer. If your apology and your launch post sound like two different companies, that's a voice problem.
A simple template to define your brand voice
- Pick three to five traits. Use adjectives with a twist so they're specific: "warm but never cheesy", "bold, not rude".
- For each trait, write "sounds like" and "never sounds like" examples. One sentence each.
- List 5 to 10 words you use and 5 to 10 you avoid. Fossil Fuel's include "primal", "ignite" and "ancient"; a calm skincare brand would avoid exactly those.
- Write three sample posts in the voice: a launch, a normal day, and a problem or apology.
- Read everything out loud. If it doesn't sound like a person, rewrite it.
Signs your voice isn't working
- You could swap your logo for a competitor's and nobody would notice.
- Different team members (or different AI prompts) write in noticeably different styles.
- Your posts are all announcements and no personality.
